Geoff Vevers

Chair, Secretary to the Board & Safeguarding Officer

When I was welcomed as a new assistant minister with the Furzedown Team of Churches in January 2016, I was delighted to accept an invitation to volunteer at FYC on Tuesday evenings. It has been great to see such a thriving work. Having recently retired after 20 years as Vicar of 3 churches in Battersea and as Chair of a Church Primary School, I was keen to continue working with young people. I have run many youth and children’s clubs and missions in my 33-year ministry and before that I was a Primary School teacher.

In June this year I was appointed Safeguarding Officer for the young people’s work at FYC and FCL. In addition to my work with FYC, my ministry in the Furzedown Team is very varied: I run a worship service for the elderly in a local Care Home; I help at Adventurers, an afterschool Bible club at St. James, and help with children’s holiday clubs; I lead and preach on Sundays at St. Paul’s and St. Alban’s, and midweek at St. James; I help with some small administration tasks at the churches; I am Chaplain to the Greyswood Practice and see patients referred by the GPs; I run a midweek faith course; I take several funerals each month. It is a wonderful privilege to be able to serve here in retirement.

I was vicar of a church in East Putney for 7 years before my post in Battersea, and before that served my curacy in Wealdstone, where I helped to run a big open youth club with 100 members, which was very hectic and challenging! I am married to June and have 3 daughters and 8 grandchildren. My passion in life is to be involved in helping people of all ages to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.
